Baby’s diet
Planning a small baby’s diet is very important because this will influence his/her whole life ahead. There are various aspects to a baby’s diet.
Tips
• For the first four months, the baby should be breastfed only. From the fifth month, first boiled and then cooled water should be fed–initially, with the help of a spoon, and later, with the help of a small glass. Whatever the age, the baby should never be fed with the help of a bottle.
• After this, slowly start introducing various food into the baby’s diet. Homemade porridge of broken wheat, milk-porridge of semolina (suji) and rice should be fed two times a day in the amount of one or two spoonfuls, or how much ever the baby can digest.
• In the sixth month, give them banana mashed in milk. Then, slowly introduce fruits such as apple, papaya, chikoo and mango in the diet. A week later, mash well-cooked vegetables with little amount of homemade butter, and feed 2 to 4 spoonful of this.
• In the seventh and eighth months, mash well-cooked lentils or khichdi (a mixture of lentils and rice) and feed 2 to 4 spoonful of this. According to the baby’s intake, increase the quantity gradually.
• In the ninth month, start giving cow or buffalo milk in a glass. Do not stop feeding mother’s milk. A year later, as per the baby’s intake, start with a balanced or full diet. In this way, the diet will itself maintain and develop the baby’s health.
